Definitions
PO: Oral administration including the enteral feeding tubes
IV Direct:
- Administration over less than or equal to 5 minutes
- Unless otherwise specified, may be administered by the RN
Intermittent Infusion:
- Administration for longer than 5 minutes through a controlled-rate infusion pump
Gestational age (GA):
- Number of weeks from the first day of the mother's last menstrual period until the birth of the baby
Postnatal age (PNA): Chronological age since birth (conventionally expressed as completed weeks)
Corrected GA: Gestational age plus postnatal age (conventionally expressed as completed weeks)
Preterm: Neonate born at < 36 weeks gestational age
Term: Neonate born at > 37 weeks gestational age
Infant: > 42 weeks corrected GA and > 4 weeks PNA
