Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment

Indications:
- Prophylaxis of gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum
- Treatment of superficial ocular infections involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea caused by organisms susceptible to erythromycin
Administration:
- For Prophylaxis:
- Apply 0.5 - 1 cm in length in the lower conjunctival sacs within 2 hours of birth. The eyelids are then massaged gently to spread the ointment
- For treatment:
- Apply a small amount of ophthalmic ointment to each eye one or more times daily, depending on the severity of the infection

- Potential administration hazards: irritation, allergic contact dermatitis
