Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate

Administration:
- PO
- PR: Mix 1 g with 2 - 3 mL of water to make a thick suspension (not a paste). Enema should be retained for 30-60 minutes
Dosage:
- 1 g/kg/dose
- 1 gram of resin exchanges 1 mmol K
Side Effects:
- Endocrine and metabolic: hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, hypernatremia
- GI: nausea, vomiting, constipation

Compatibility:
- Compatible with: sorbitol, water, D5W
Notes:
- Each gram of resin contains 4.1 mmol of Na
