Indications: 
  • Increase cardiac output
Administration: 
  • IV continuous infusion
Dosage: 
  • 0.05 mcg/kg/min, titrate to a maximum of 2 mcg/kg/min
Side Effects: 
  • CVS: tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension, hypotension
  • Endocrine and metabolic: hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia
     
Parameters to Monitor: 
  • HR
  • BP
  • ECG
Reconstitution and Stability: 
  • Isoproterenol 0.2 mg/mL
    • Take 2 mL (0.4 mg) and add to 18 mL of D5W
    • Final concentration: 20 mcg/mL
Compatibility: 
  • Solutions Compatible: dextrose, 0.9% NaCl
  • Y-site Compatible: calcium, dobutamine, heparin, KCl, TPN

Incompatible: furosemide, sodium bicarbonate
